Rethinking Curriculum: What if “normal” is the problem?
After rising to the challenge of Covid-19, that changed learning almost overnight, we are now either back to business-as-usual in schools or to a blended version of what used to be normal. But, what if “normal” is the problem?
How equipped are we for the global anti-racism movement that will continue to gain momentum and will no longer tolerate our ‘one-size-fits-some’ approach? How ready are we for our changing national PLD priorities: cultural capability, local curriculum design, assessment for learning, and digital fluency? The Government’s vision is for a more inclusive, equitable, and connected New Zealand education system, but that won’t be realised unless we confront the questions: who is teaching; who is being taught, what is being taught, and why and how are we teaching that content?
